Our work requires us to be dependent on various stakeholders to assist in awakening and moulding our vision. The Calypso Cricket Festival came from very humble beginnings, and since its conceptualization 23 years ago, the programme continues to grow on an annual base and sees thousands of children from underprivileged communities descend on the popular beaches of Cape Town. It is evident from the number of participants that this dynamic introduction-to-cricket initiative shows the popularity of the event, as well as the willingness to increase community participation.

When two entities collaborate with the need to execute on good intentions, the outcomes are always noble. The Sporting Chance and Maurits van Nierop Foundation collaboration has made a positive impact on youth from underprivileged areas, and we are of the belief that this impact will increase further and touch many more lives. Maurits van Nierops’ parents have made it their task to hold their talented son’s name in high regard and knowing how passionate he was for the game and South Africa, we can only hope that our actions and execution of the Calypso Cricket, justify their continued belief in Sporting Chance and our initiatives. We look forward to another successful Calypso Festival and a partnership with the Maurits van Nierop foundation that will continue to grow and prosper with each passing year.
