In 2008, Nelson Mandela made an inspired call to encourage the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”.
Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in 2009 and since then the global movement has celebrated his legacy and inspired all to do good…

As Mandela Day fell within our holiday coaching clinic week, we thought what better way than to incorporate our eager young Sporting Chancers, who are the youth and future of our beloved country. Encourage them and provide the opportunity for them to give something back this Mandela Day.

The 6.7 minute ‘timeout’ from coaching stations was created, with the challenge to see each sport code take a sport break for 6.7 mins to see how many sandwiches they could make to contribute to our target of 67. Overall we well surpassed the 67 target and it was very encouraging to see the enthusiasm from the boys and girls alike as they keenly got hands on involved.

At the end of the day we donated the sandwiches to the night shelter nearby, who were extremely appreciative of the gesture. Thanks to all our young Sporting Chancers who buttered, filled and packed our sandwiches for the greater cause, you’ve made a difference, even in a small way and thanks too to our coaching programme sponsors Flip File, Sportsmans Warehouse, Hi-Tec, GM, Summit, Kauai and SuperSport Let’s Play for your continued support and motivation.
